Are you getting ready to book a Liberty helicopter ride over Manhattan? If so, we can’t wait to see you and give you the best NYC air tour experience you’ll ever have! Whether it’s a Jersey resident who’s coming up to fly from our Manhattan heliport or a native New Yorker who’s taking off from our location in Kearny, NJ, we get questions all the time from customers asking for the best ways they can get from New York City to Kearny. It’s okay to ask for help sometimes–especially for directions! The list below details a few of the different travel options you could choose.
NJ PATH Train
An easy and cost-effective way to travel from New York City to New Jersey, we frequently recommend that New Yorkers take the NJ PATH Train to get to our Kearny, NJ location. Tickets are only $2.75 per person, and the RidePATH app is an easy way to keep track of train schedules right on your smartphone. Here are two travel options using the NJ PATH system.
Option 1*
- Take the NJ PATH Train from the One World Trade Center stop straight to Newark Penn Station.
- From Newark Penn Station, order a Lyft or Uber ride to our Kearny, NJ address: 1 Ford Lane, Kearny, NJ 07032. The ride should cost approx. $8-11.
Please note that unfortunately, until January 2020, the World Trade Center stop will be closed on weekends to complete repair work. If you are travelling on a Saturday or Sunday, use option 2 instead.
Option 2
- Take the NJ PATH Train from 33rd Street to Journal Square.
- From Journal Square, order a Lyft or Uber ride to our Kearny, NJ address. The ride should cost $8-11.
If you are not an experienced traveler in NY or NJ, we don’t recommend taking NJ Transportation outside of the PATH Train. Even as a New Yorker, it can be stressful and overwhelming. The PATH Train and Uber/Lyft are much easier to use.
Taxi, Lyft, or Uber
We do not typically recommend taking a yellow taxi or dispatch cab from Manhattan to Kearny. Many customers have had bad experiences with taxi drivers who tend to overcharge.
A good alternative to taxis are Lyft or Uber rides. The drive from midtown can be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how bad traffic is. Prices for Lyft/Uber rides usually hover between $60-70, much less expensive than a taxi ride.
Ferry
If you find yourself at our downtown Manhattan Heliport and realize your takeoff is actually from Kearny, NJ, don’t panic – You can take the ferry back to New Jersey. Right on Pier 11, there is a ferry that goes straight to Exchange Place, a 4-minute ferry ride. From Exchange Place, take a 20-minute taxi ride for $11-15. Ferry tickets are normally $7, but since the World Trade Center Path Train is shut down on weekends until January 2020, when you swipe your normal $2.75 train fare at the World Trade Center, they lead you out to Pier 11 and you can get on the ferry for that price.
Driving
If you would prefer to rely on yourself rather than some form of public transportation, driving is always an option. There are plenty of parking lots to choose from at our Kearny location.
