How to Prepare Your Child for a NYC Helicopter Ride?

Mar 14, 2019 | Liberty, The Helicopter Company News & Events

Get Them Excited

Talk to your child about helicopters beforehand! Let them look at pictures or videos of helicopter rides because there are plenty featuring children too. In general, kids have a great love for flying, especially children who like comic book superheroes.

Brief Them About Safety

Address any concerns or questions regarding safety that your kids might have and reassure them regarding safety protocols. Children less than 35lbs are given separate life vests, which are fitted for their size. Remember to answer honestly and openly and try not to cause unnecessary fear.

Explain Aspects like Turbulence and In-Air Sensation

Talk about what turbulence feels like and that it is quite common in windy pockets. Make them excited about how it feels to be in the air and the unique sensation of flying. Encourage them to get the spectacular glimpses of the New York skyline.

Prepare Them for On-Boarding

It is wise to prepare children for the noise the helicopter makes, especially when they are about to board. Only infants in particular are given additional ear-protection for such tours.

Bring a Toy or Pacifier

If you are carrying an infant, bring a pacifier or their favorite small toy; it will help comfort them and keep them engaged in case they get nervous. Don’t be surprised if your infant falls asleep onboard, helicopter rides are smoother than you think!

Talk to Them Throughout the Flight

Some children can be nervous during the flight. Talking to them or engaging them in the sights can help alleviate fears. Educate them on some prior information about historic landmarks to keep them occupied. Remember our pilots are great at spotting a nervous kid and giving them some additional attention to help calm their nerves.

Give Kids Cameras In-Flight

Consider giving your child your camera or mobile phone to take pictures of the skyline. This is one of the best ways to keep kids engaged and make them feel comfortable.
